Erdogan, Rutte Review NATO Summit Plans, Global Security Issues
According to reports and Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdogan stressed that ongoing instability in various regions highlights the need for stronger solidarity and coordination among NATO members.
He expressed hope that the forthcoming Ankara summit would produce decisions aimed at reinforcing alliance unity and improving NATO’s ability to respond rapidly to crises.
Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s continued expansion of its defense industry, particularly in air defense systems, and said the country seeks to deepen cooperation with allied partners in this sector.
He underscored the importance of preserving the trans-Atlantic bond, while noting that the European dimension of NATO should take on greater responsibility. He further stated that excluding non-EU NATO members from European defense initiatives would be counterproductive, according to reports.
The Turkish president also reiterated Ankara’s position in favor of diplomacy and de-escalation following tensions linked to developments involving Iran.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Erdogan said Türkiye remains actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to support a peaceful settlement and is working to revive negotiations, including discussions at leadership level, according to reports.
