Erdogan Says Probe Was Lunched Into F-16 Crash

(MENAFN) Turkey has launched investigations following the crash of a Turkish Air Force F-16 fighter jet in western Balikesir province, which resulted in the death of its pilot, as stated by reports.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at an event in Ankara on Wednesday, expressed profound sorrow over the loss and offered prayers for Air Force pilot Major Ibrahim Bolat. He extended his condolences to the pilot’s family, the Turkish Air Force, and the nation.

Authorities have begun a full inquiry to determine the circumstances of the crash, with all necessary procedures being carried out by relevant institutions, Erdogan said.

Earlier, the National Defense Ministry reported that the aircraft went down after radio contact and tracking information were lost. The ministry added that the fighter jet had taken off from the 9th Main Jet Base Command in Balikesir at 12:56 a.m. local time (21:56 GMT Tuesday).
